Bruce Crandall and Arlene Crandall Social Courage Award

Bruce Crandall and Arlene Crandall Social Courage Award Scholarship at Antioch University

The Bruce and Arlene Crandall Social Courage Award is a scholarship established by Antioch University Board Member Steve Crandall. It celebrates the life and legacy of both his parents, each of whom were exceptionally courageous people in their own right.  With the establishment of the Bruce and Arlene Crandall Social Courage Award, Steve Crandall builds on his family’s legacy of service and study.   Bruce and Arlene Crandall were life-long learners, each attending University as adults, and represent the best of Antiochian values.  Bruce Crandall completed his degree during his service–a journey that took seventeen years while Arlene Crandall, who attended Washington State University before leaving to join Bruce in Tripoli, Libya, decided to complete her University studies once her sons had all graduated high school.

This $5,000 scholarship is awarded during Fall Quarter to one Antioch University student accepted for the Summer/Fall MFA term, GSLC Summer Trimester, Fall Semester, or Fall Quarter, who has demonstrated social courage by serving in the US Military or has contributed to one of the following national service programs: AmeriCorps, City Year, Peace Corps, and VISTA by completing at least one year of full-time service.  .
